REV. JOHN CRAWFORD, of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, died at Antwerp on the 21st December 1910, in the 64th year of his age, and the 38th of his priesthood.
The Rev. John Crawford was born in the parish of East Monkland, Lanarkshire, on the 29th September 1846. His early training was received at Blairs, which he entered in July 1863, and in September of 1865 he proceeded to the Scots College, Valladolid, where he completed the remainder of his studies. He was raised to the priesthood by Cardinal Moreno on the 16th March 1872. On his return to Scotland, after serving temporarily at Dumbarton, he was appointed assistant at St Lawrence's, Greenock. Here he had during the next five years the advantage of working under the direction of that saintly and zealous pastor, the late Canon
Condon. In 1877 he was placed in charge of Dalry, which post he retained for four years, opening in 1878 a station at Kilwinning. Resining his charge In 1881 he was attached to the mission of Larkhall, and in 1884 to that of Motherwell. After an interval of thirteen years spent outside the Diocese, he was in 1898 serving sit St Agnes', Lambhlll, Glasgow, and from 1899 to 1905 at Langloan, Coatbridge. Since 1905 ho had been living in retirement at Antrwerp. |
